Abstract. In 2016 V.Yu. Burmin and co-authors published the results of a new interpretation of the seismological bulletins data for the territory of Armenia. A thorough check and rejection of the original data were performed and an original author’s earthquake location algorithm was used. The algorithm is based on minimizing the distance functional between points (X, Y, H) and (x, y, h) corresponding to theoretical and observation of the time of the seismic wave run from the source of earthquakes to the stations. As a result, it was found that in addition to crustal earthquakes, deep earthquakes with a depth of up to 300 km also occur in the region. This non-trivial result has caused objections from some seismologists. They are given in the article A.A. Godzikovskaya, published in this issue of the journal. In this article we discuss the objections by A.A. Godzikovskaya. One of the main arguments of A.A. Godzikovskaya is based on the form difference in records of deep and crustal earthquakes. But the record form depends not only on the source depth, but also on the velocity structure of the medium and the earthquake mechanism, which determines the radiation pattern of seismic energy from the source, as well as the duration of the faulting process. The question of what record form of seismic waves from the earthquake sources of different mechanisms and depths is typical for a given region requires special study.
