Abstract: In this paper we consider development of an automated nonstop monitoring system for structures with slow-altering parameters e.g. structural deformation monitoring. The primary focus of this work lands on several challenges that come up with development, debugging and testing of the monitoring system’s software. These challenges are caused by very low rate of changes in control measurements. We show that these challenges are circumvented by utilizing methods of discrete event modeling. For this we’ve implemented our own discrete-event modeling system as a Python module optimized for monitoring workload. This module was used in deformation monitoring system that utilizes a series of “Strazh” geophysical sensors.

Keywords: deformation monitoring, software development, discrete-event modeling, real-time systems.
